NEW ORLEANS (May 24, 2011) – Philanthropist Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is in the Crescent City to support Rotary International's 26-year effort to eradicate polio. His appearance is an important reminder that polio, a receding memory in America thanks to preventive vaccines, still threatens children in parts of the developing world. And as long as polio exists anywhere in the world, all children remain at risk.
